Changing the Default List in the Reminders App on iPhone, iPad, and Mac

The Reminders app is a helpful feature for keeping yourself organized and up-to-date on all tasks and goals. It comes pre-installed on iPhones and iPads, as well as Mac computers. It helps us keep track of pesky tasks, errands, and projects, ensuring that we remember to complete them. The app also allows you to list tasks and events into their respective lists. When you are inputting a task or event into the app, you’re asked to specify which list in which to save the information. This can range from a “Work” list to a “Household Chores” list. However, what happens when you’re using your device’s voice assistant, such as Siri, to add in your tasks? Do those tasks automatically end up in a certain list?

The answer is yes! The Reminders app contains a default list. So, if you ask Siri to add a new task without specifying a list, it’ll automatically go into your default one. This means that if you’re frequently using Siri to add reminders, it’s important to make sure that the default list is the one that you want!

It’s very easy to customize the default list within the Reminders app. It’s the same process for both iPad and Mac devices. On iPad and iPhone, follow these steps:

1. Open the Settings app
2. Scroll down to Reminders and select it
3. Tap Default List
4. Select the list you want as your default. You’ll see a checkmark next to the default list you pick.

If you’d rather create a new list to make the default, you’ll need to start by creating one in the Reminders app. To make the list, open up the app and click “Add List” in the bottom left corner. After this, go back to the Settings app and repeat the steps above.

The same process goes for Mac users. To make a change in the default, open up the Reminders app and click “Reminders > Settings” from the top menu bar. Click the drop-down menu next to “Default List” and select the one you’d like to use.

Again, if you’d rather set a new list as the default, click “Add List” in the bottom left of the Mac Reminders app. Once you’ve done this, head back to the Settings app and follow the same steps listed above.

Once you’ve got your default list chosen and saved, you’re ready to use the Reminders app to its full potential. Having a default list is a great way to ensure that your tasks get organized and that you maintain a high level of productivity.
