Yesterday, during Sony’s State of Play event, Larian Studios confirmed their upcoming title Baldur’s Gate 3 would be releasing in August of this year – though with no mention of any version for Xbox players. However, the team has now released a statement confirming the existence of an Xbox version of the much anticipated RPG, but explaining why it wasn’t mentioned during the event.

In the official Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, a Larian community manager released an explanation as to what was going on with the Xbox version and why it hasn’t been officially announced yet. It was revealed that while a version of the game for the Xbox has indeed been “in the works for some time”, it has encountered some “technical issues” in particular with split-screen co-op. The statement also clarified that there is “no platform exclusivity” preventing certain reveals – the team just isn’t “confident enough” yet to announce the version.

The upcoming RPG is being developed by Belgian studio Larian Studios, who are best known for their successful Divinity series. Despite no official announcement of an Xbox version, the game is still scheduled to launch on other platforms across the world on August 31st, 2023.

It is clear that the team are dedicated to releasing the highest standard of product, and that they are not willing to settle for anything but the best. Until they are completely satisfied, they won’t be announcing any further platforms.

What do you think about Larian Studios keeping quiet on the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3? Leave a comment letting us know what you think and join the conversation.
