With the ever-growing popularity of ChatGPT, even more users are eager to get their hands on the innovative chatbot. Unfortunately, with the large user base, hackers and cybercriminals saw the platform as an opportunity to lure unsuspecting users into malicious traps. Recently, the online privacy firm Guardio has noticed a scam that involves a browser extension called “Quick access to Chat GPT”. The extension has since been taken off the Chrome Web Store, yet it still managed to steal all the cookies stored in the browser, including security and session tokens for services like YouTube, Twitter and Google account.

Moreover, the hackers have focused their target towards those who had high-profile Facebook business accounts. It is easier to hijack Facebook business and LinkedIn accounts since they are seen as valuable to the attackers. Furthermore, they had bypassed Facebook’s security by renaming requests to its servers made through Meta’s Graph API. This allowed them to manage a victim’s “connected WhatsApp and Instagram accounts” that were listed under the Facebook profile.

So, how can you get access to ChatGPT without getting into any sort of trouble? You are suggested to sign up for ChatGPT Plus for $20 per month or even meet the requirements to get early access to Microsoft’s Bing with ChatGPT. As of now, there is no official extension for ChatGPT,so you can access the chatbot only through “chat.openai.com”. Above all, it is important to equip your system with the best antivirus software – whether it is the best antivirus software for PCs or the best Mac antivirus software for Apple computers – to stay safe from malware and other viruses.

Safety must always come first, so it is important to be careful while downloading and installing new browser extensions and even while signing up for new services. Most importantly, you should check the extension and reviews both on the Chrome Web Store and on other sites before downloading it. Also, watch out for external reviews and video reviews which can be a great tool to get an insight into how the extension works.

So, be sure to be extra vigilant before downloading browser extensions so that you can safely and securely access ChatGPT! You should comment to let us know if you have ever encountered any malicious browser extensions and what measures do you take to stay safe from such traps in the future.
