Apple’s iPhone ‘Car Key’ App Tests Revealed

Apple’s revolutionary Car Key feature has caused quite a stir in the auto industry since it was unveiled in July 2020. It introduces the concept of using your iPhone to literally unlock your car. It’s a fantastic way to open the door without actually needing to use the bulky car keys.

The technology is still in its early stages, however. It can only be used on certain BMW cars and some of the latest Hyundai and Kia models. Apple is putting a lot of effort into ramping up adoption of the feature and recently released a Car Key Tests app in the App Store to facilitate the process.

The Car Key Tests App is meant for car manufacturers to test their integration with the Apple Car Key feature and ensure that it meets all the necessary requirements for certification. It was shared under the Apple developer account but is currently unlisted, meaning only those with the direct link can find the app. While this may not be the main reason for Apple wanting more partners, it definitely simplifies the process of distributing the app to partners and getting them to test and evaluate the feature.

Apple is setting itself up to make Car Key a game-changing feature for the Wallet app. Not only does it make it easier for users to unlock their cars, but it also enables them to start the car and share car keys with authorized users.

Presumably, with the launch of the Car Key Tests app, we should start seeing the Apple Car Key feature rolled out in more cars and other manufacturers in the near future. It has the potential to completely change the way people interact with cars and revolutionize the car industry.

Have you had the chance to try out the Apple Car Key feature yet? What was your experience? Share your thoughts on the feature in the comments down below. We’d love to hear what you think.
