It’s almost hard to believe that we’ve been waiting for the Tetris movie for almost a decade. But now, the official trailer has been released from Apple Original Films and we finally get to take a glimpse into the world of the classic Russian-themed game.
The story follows Henk Rogers (Taron Egerton), an enthusiastic Dutch entrepreneur who was so captivated by the game of Tetris that he had the drive to travel to the Soviet Union during the onset of the Cold War to secure its distribution rights. Interestingly, it appears that the film is taking a different approach from other movies that were inspired by retro video games, as this Tetris movie appears to be a Cold War spy thriller.
The film also features a cast of other brilliant actors, including Nikita Efremov, A Good Man, who portrays Alexey Pajitnov, the game’s inventor, and the cast of supporting characters who are navigating the ever-increasing tensions between the Soviet government and the West.
The project was originally expected to span a trilogy of movies, produced by Larry Kasanoff. However, the director, Jon S. Baird (Stan & Ollie) and the other set of producers, which include Matthew Vaughn, Gillian Berrie, Claudia Vaughn, Len Blavatnik and Gregor Cameron, have decided to stream the movie as a single entity.
We can officially state then on March 31st, Tetris will be available to stream globally via Apple TV Plus and just get ready for it!
